It is with great excitement that we announce details of the agenda for the upcoming Leeds FinTech North conference, scheduled to take place on Thursday 26th April, as part of the Leeds Digital Festival.

The event, which will be held at the aql offices in central Leeds, will cover various topic related to the FinTech field. The day will be divided into three sessions, focusing on FinTech in the Northern Powerhouse, FinTech Fundamentals and FinTech Showcase.

A networking breakfast will open the day, and then Julian Wells, Director of FinTech North and Leeds-based business, Whitecap Consulting, and Adam Beaumont, CEO of aql, will give welcome addresses.

The first session, on FinTech in the Northern Powerhouse, will see Dr. Chris Sier, FinTech Envoy (England), Sameer Gulati, Policy and Research Advisor at Innovate Finance, and Henri Murison, Chief Executive of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership, deliver speeches on the topic. These will be followed by a panel session, during which the speakers will be joined by Ross Mumford, the Assistant Director of Financial Services at CBI.

A short mid-morning break will precede the second session of the day, which will look at FinTech Fundamentals. Delegates will have the opportunity to hear from Fergus Murphy, Group Customer Value Director of CYBG, who will comment on Facing up to FinTech, David Dalton-Brown and Peter Smith of TISA, who will discuss Building a Regional FinTech Hub, and Richard Carter, Managing Director of Equiniti Credit Services, who will give his views on the challenges of being a growing regional FinTech.

Stuart Sherman, Founder and CEO of Toronto-based firm, IMC, was our top-ranking speaker from last year’s event according to the 2017 attendees. He will be returning this year to share further insight with the audience during the FinTech Fundamentals session. Speeches will be followed by a FinTech skills and resources panel session, chaired by Lal Tawney, Whitecap Consulting Director, and with participants including Paul Connell, from the ODI Leeds, Dr Iain Clacher of the University of Leeds, and Catherine O’Connor, Head of School of Arts and Communication at Trinity University.

A food and networking session, with lunch provided by Lean Lunch, will break the day at 1:00pm. This will be followed by the International FinTech Showcase, in partnership with DIT, chaired by Jeremy Coupland featuring a range of UK and international FinTechs, including representation from Canada. The conference will close with a session including presentations from Nick Harrison, Commercial Director at First Direct, Computershare, and a discussion panel which will debate the challenges of funding, chaired by Sara Parker of NorthInvest.

The event will then formally close, and guests are invited to join a drinks reception kindly sponsored by Womble Bond Dickinson.
