DBT to host UK FinTech Delegation to New York as part of New York Fintech Week 2024

FinTech North is delighted to share another international opportunity with the Northern FinTech community.

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is organising a UK FinTech delegation to New York, running from Monday 8th April to Wednesday 10th April during New York FinTech Week.

FinTech North is delighted to invite UK-based growth-stage FinTechs, with an active intention to expand into the US, to apply for the programme. The DBT have outlined the following criteria for prospective applicants:

– Proven success in the UK / Europe with at least 10 employees

– Globally recognisable corporate clients

– Already selling into 1-2 US companies

– Revenue-generating or funding-backed

– Unique service offer: known differential from competitors

– Interested in the New York Tristate Area

The delegation itinerary, whilst still being developed, will consist of:

– Introductions to the North American market

– Organised meetings with economic development agencies in the New York Tri-State area such as New York City Economic Development, New Jersey Economic Development Authority, Choose New Jersey, City of Stamford and Pennsylvania Economic Development Association.

– Meetings with lawyers, sales, banking, VCs and innovation teams from large financial institutions – covering key considerations when expanding into the US.

– A ‘Tales from the Trenches’ session – hear from UK FinTechs that have successfully expanded into North America

– New York FinTech Conference Opening Boat Party

– Empire FinTech Conference

– DBT Trade Mission Reception

– Additional external activities as part of New York FinTech Week

UK growth-stage fintechs will be joined on the trade mission with a cohort focused on diverse founders led by 1000 Black Voices and aimed at Black founders. It is not mandatory to be a diverse founder in order to apply for the mission however.

Applications are now live. If you’re interested in taking part in the delegation, please follow the link here. Applications will close the 23rd February 2024.

Depending on the quantity and quality of applications, DBT may need to conduct interviews which would take place on week commencing Monday, 19th February. Successful applicants will then be confirmed and can start booking their accommodation by week commencing Monday, February 26th.

Please note:

DBT will not financially support trade mission participants. Therefore, all the costs associated with traveling to NYFTW (flights, accommodation, etc.) will be for the applying organisation to cover. DBT is in conversations with the conference organisers to secure discounted prices for the opening boat party (Apr 9) and the Empire Fintech Conference (Apr 10).

Below are the associated costs with the opening boat party and the conference itself. In both instances, the respective websites will hold the most up to date prices. DBT will let delegates know if there is a discount available once they are confirmed to participate on the mission.
