FinTech North News and Regional FinTech Developments

Flying Start for FinTech North in 2024

It’s great to be back after a restful winter break following a record-breakingly busy  and successful year at FinTech North! After some much-needed rest and recuperation, we can’t wait to get the ball rolling with an even bigger and better year of events. We’re reaching all four Northern regions in Q1, as well as putting on virtual events, so we’re hoping to reach as many members of our community as we can.

We kicked off the year by hosting a Central Banking Digital Currency (CBDC) themed Roundtable for the Bank of England, which sparked some really interesting and focussed discussions between the Bank and a number of different payments FinTechs. During the meeting, the Bank of England introduced the main headlines from the Consultation Paper and their next phase of work. The discussion expanded on the role of the private sector in a digital pound ecosystem, and the differences between the needs of consumers and merchants in payments.

We’re always more than happy to bring together industry leaders to get conversations started, ideas developed and the wheels in motion for FinTech innovation.

Our first community-oriented event of the year, our FinTech Social hosted in partnership with one of our main supporters, Bruntwood Sci-Tech, is set to take place on the 31st of January. What a great way to kickstart the year, in the city where it all started, with a partner we work so closely with (both figuratively and literally), and what better way to end ‘Dry January’ than catching up with our friends in one of the North’s leading tech hubs.

Next up is our Operational Resilience Webinar, hosted in partnership with AccessPay. This niche topic has attracted a really focussed audience, and we’ve got a line-up stacked with a really diverse and interesting bunch of speakers. This is our first content-focussed event this year, and it’ll be great to connect the community virtually so they can join from anywhere in the North, UK, or the world, like our most recent webinar that saw over 200 sign ups, 100 attendees and over 10 audience questions – always great engagement and interactivity that we love to see from our community.

If you didn’t manage to get tickets to our sold-out FinTech Social in Leeds, don’t worry – we know how much our community value the opportunity to network, so we’re back for more. We’re bringing our community together for some more networking at our Manchester FinTech Mixer, once again hosted in partnership with Bruntwood SciTech, who will be offering exclusive access to their TechHub – so be sure not to miss it.

Following this, we’ll be hosting a Newcastle Fintech Forum in partnership with Innovation Supernetwork, the Internet of Caring Things, FinPact and North of Tyne Digital. The forum will be focussed around a ‘Fintech for Good’ theme – highlighting the transformative powers of FinTech as a force for good – we can’t wait for our community to hear more about this.

Next, we will be supporting our new strategic partnersLenvi, with some virtual event activity, following the release of their Consumer Borrowing Report.

Finally, we are thrilled to host our first Liverpool Conference in over four years- we can’t wait to be back to and showcase Liverpool city regions growing fintech ecosystem – the agenda is taking shape and we are delighted to be able to host in the new Yoko Ono Lennon Centre at the University of Liverpool.

You’ll hear from us again soon when we announce the events we’ve got planned for Q2 – we’re excited to share more content than ever, and engage with our community in new regions across the whole of the North, so keep an eye out in your city!

If you’re interested in getting involved in our events at any level, whether tou’re a delegate, or potential speaker, sponsor or partner, or you have a venue to host in, you can contact us at info@fintechnorth.uk.
